Ines Katamso made Post Rimbun for the Guangzhou exhibition. Suspended textiles suggest mountain forms, bringing a dialogue with Chinese landscape painting into the gallery. The pigments come from construction debris collected in Bali, including brick, concrete, stone and rust.

The materials carry the pressure of building and tourism into images of tropical vegetation. What viewers see as colour also has a history as discarded urban matter. Moving these materials into an installation allows the work to address environmental change through the fabric and pigments themselves.

Ines Katamso
