## About this paper

The history of Johor Bahru’s Chingay parade traces changing relationships between Chinese community traditions and Malaysian national belonging. Its recognition as national intangible heritage in 2012 provides a point of reference for examining negotiations between ethnic and national identities.

## 摘要

马来西亚新山市的春节民俗“游神” ,有近一百五十年历史,包含宗教、文化和商业因素,早期反映着华人的侨民身份。国家独立以后 ,“游神”也是团结族群、塑造华人文化身份的重要方式,二十世纪八十年代后,新山游神更强调华人文化传承。2012年新山游神入选马来西亚国家非物质文化遗产,成为国家文化的构成部分,体现着作为少数民族的“华族”身份。从华人民俗到马来西亚国家文化遗产,新山游神的历史反映着华人身份和国族身份之间的互动与协商。
